5 Year Operational Plan for Children's Eye Health in Sub-Saharan Africa

ORBIS hosted an international conference for the eye health community in sub-Sarharan Africa. On 4 and 5 May 2011 international experts in pediatric eye care gathered in Cape Town to plan a five-year strategy to bring quality pediatric eye care to the children of sub-Saharan Africa. The conference titled, "Planning for Comprehensive Eye Care for Children in sub-Saharan Africa" focused on developing a comprehensive model for managing avoidable childhood blindness in the region.

Over the two days ORBIS brought together a group of professionals who work in the field of eye care and blindness prevention in Africa to develop a plan for how we together can bring quality pediatric eye care to the children of sub-Saharan Africa. The event also aimed to identify ways in which we can finance the implementation of the plan and to hence drastically improve children's access to eye care over the next 5 years.
