All of the following regarding acute retinal necrosis (ARN) are true, except:

a. It is caused by a herpes virus and antiviral therapies (systemic acyclovir) should be started immediately. b. It is commonly associated with anterior and posterior uveitis. c. It can be associated with retinal detachments which develop from retinal holes. d.  It always involves the posterior pole but spares the optic nerve.
