QOW July 12

 

This 8-year-old girl developed this massive swelling with proptosis of the right eye over an eight week period.  She reported no prior health problems. 

1.  The most likely diagnosis is: 
 


a.  childhood thyroid ophthalmopathy
b.  hemangioma
c.  retinoblastoma
d.  rhabdomyosarcoma

2.  Work up of this patient should include: 
 
a.  biopsy with careful debulking
b.  chest X-ray
c.  CT or MRI imaging of the orbit 

d.  all of the above

3.  Initial treatment for this condition would include:   
 
a.  exenteration of the orbit
b.  excisional biopsy and external beam radio therapy
c.  ligation of the orbital vein
d.  massive steroid treatment
