How to Become an ORBIS Telemedicine Partner for E-Consultation
E-Consultation connects a partner doctor with an ORBIS volunteer mentor
A Cyber-Sight partner may be enrolled in E-Consultation through a personal contact with an ORBIS Volunteer Faculty, usually during a Flying Eye Hospital (FEH) program or during a hospital based program (HBP). We call this “extended presence” because it enables the connection with an ORBIS Volunteer Faculty to extend beyond the duration of a program. In other cases, partners enroll after having found the program online or hearing about it from a colleague without any prior contact with an ORBIS Volunteer Faculty. We call this “expanded presence” because it reaches beyond the parameters of an FEH or HBP program.
Any ophthalmologist within the scope of the ORBIS mission who has access to the internet and who is interested in discussing consultation cases one-on-one with a volunteer mentor may apply to be a Cyber-Sight E-Consultation partner. A basic digital camera is sufficient to get started with uploading cases. Upon enrollment, a partner is given a personal mentor team made up of 10 to 13 or more expert ophthalmologists representing the various sub-specialties in ophthalmology. All services are provided entirely free of charge.
There are many ORBIS volunteer faculty serving as Cyber-Sight mentors. These ophthalmologists volunteer their time to answer consults submitted by partner doctors who are seeking clinical support and an opportunity to discuss cases with a mentor colleague. These volunteer mentors and partners may have met through a previous ORBIS program, through a colleague, or may have met only online through Cyber-Sight.
