We're Number One

Those of us at Cyber-Sight were very excited when ORBIS Medical Director, Hunter Cherwek, pointed out that "Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery" was number one out of 322,000 listings on Google!  This manual appears in E-Resources and has also been printed in hard copy with 1,000 already distributed and another 1,000 coming off the press.  Manual small incision cataract surgery is the procedure of choice for the majority of cataracts in the developing world and is a technique taught regularly by ORBIS Volunteer Faculty around the world.

MSICS manual

The material in this booklet is based on the experience of Ravi Thomas, MD, and Prashant Garg, MD, both highly skilled surgeons.  Dr. Thomas is now practicing and teaching in Australia and Dr. Garg remains at the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India.  The manual was constructed by Lynda M. Smallwood and the artwork was prepared by Sharon Teal, a medical illustrator in the School of Visual Media at Indiana University.  The manual was edited by Eugene M. Helveston, MD, and D. Hunter Cherwek, MD.
