A 41-year-old woman complained of bright flashes in the left eye for two months and also a “shadow” in the lower field of the left eye.  Vision is 20/20 in each eye and the refraction is OD and OS +. 50.  Intraocular pressure is 14 mm Hg in both eyes.  The left retina looks as shown in photograph.

1.  This retinal image is compatible with a diagnosis of:   
 

a. retinoschisis
b. Coats disease
c. Eales disease
d.  retinal traction with a vitreous band
e. none of the above

2.  The next step with this patient should be:  
 

a. immediate vitrectomy
b. intravitreal steroid injection
c. observation if the retinal detachment is stable and the macula remains attached
d.  triple procedure

3.  If there is progression of the process with increased detachment or loss of vision:  
 
a. It is too late; nothing can be done.
