This child is 6 months old and is healthy. The only problem that the parents notice is that the left upper lid is lower and “droops”.

1. Which of the following tests would be appropriate for this child?

e -- all of the above

All of these tests are important for evaluation and for planning of eventual treatment.

2. The timing of treatment is based on?

e -- (a) and (b)

The two primary considerations when deciding on the timing for surgery in an infant with ptosis are the effect of the head posture on motor development and amblyopia.

3. The treatment for this condition could be:

e -- (a) or (b)

Depending on the amount of levator function, the most likely surgery for this ptosis would be frontalis suspension if levator function is very poor or levator resection if there is some levator function in the range of 3 mm.
